WHERE DOES THE NAME HAYDARPASHA COME FROM?
This region in which the recreation palaces of the byzantien empires are located has remained as a meadow covered with vineyards and gardens during the Ottoman period and was at the same time used as a location of gathering for the cruises of the army to Anatolia. The region has been named after Haydar Pasha, who was one of the Pashas of Sultan
IN THE LIGHT OF THE DOCUMENTS….
The İnformation given by Evliya Celebi about this region is interesting . While talking about Haydarpasha Evliya Celebi has described that region as a vineyard. In another section of his book he has stated that Haydarpasha was one of the private gardens of the Sultan.
This view is supported especially by the fact that it has been stated in a document dated 1789 that the port to which the boat of the sultan must come alongside must be repaired … In another document stemming from the year 1800 an order has been given for the ammunition in the tent to be transported from the port of Haydarpasha to the meadow of İbrahim Aga. Still another document from the year 1802 has described the Haydarpasha region as the sahara of Haydarpasha and the fact that the army was approaching the city was indicated as a ground for the tents to be set up there.
